Filament magazine is a magazine for women, which includes intelligent commentary and images of men designed for the female gaze.

We're here hoping to see some exciting examples of art that shows men in innovative ways that are also erotic for women. We also use Deviant Art to recruit illustrators, photographers and models.

If we've added your work to our favourites, and you're interested in contributing to Filament in future, let's talk turkey! Email our editor Suraya at hello@filamentmagazine.com.

Filament magazine: The thinking woman's crumpet
:iconcolinluxton:
Hey.

Dosen't employing the female gaze, especially in an erotic sense, reinforce the viewpoint of the male gaze, with all it's hideous pitfalls?? I mean, it dosen't critique or subvert the male gaze at all. All it does is sets up an opposition to it, which acknowledges and further defines the male gaze's central position.

Perhaps.
:iconspecialknives:
Well, maybe. It's a matter of opinion really. I don't think the male gaze has hideous pitfalls EXCEPT that it exists in a world where there is little or no female gaze.

There's a FAQ about on this subject on our website:

Filament magazine: The thinking woman's crumpet
:iconcolinluxton:
Hey. Emailed you with a better critique/question. I'm sure all your research is solid. I just bemoan the fate of the figurative image which remains in a reduced state under a male or female occupation of the frame.
:iconspecialknives:
I'm not sure I fully understand your academic language here, but perhaps there is room for both the thing you bemoan, and your ideal, in the world.
